Veritas School Choir

Posted by: Doug Tags: , ,

My son Adam attends Veritas School in Newberg, Oregon and was a member of the Concert Choir last year. Their choir, directed by Sally Mehler, won the  OSAA 1A/2A Oregon State Choir Championship.  He has not been in the choir this year because of his very busy schedule. However, he has been able to work with Mrs. Mehler and rearrange his activities to re-join the choir this week – We are so pleased for him!

Here are come of the pieces performed by the choir at the State Choir competition.

“This animate was adapted from a talk given at the RSA by Sir Ken Robinson, world-renowned education and creativity expert and recipient of the RSA’s Benjamin Franklin award.”

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook recently and I thought it sufficiently thought provoking to share it as well. What I like about it (apart from the excellent animation) is that it calls into question the educational paradigms that may have come out of the Enlightenment. These may have been consistent with and worked fairly well at one point in history – but may not be so useful in our current cultural context. Further, it is clear our educational methods may need to be rethought not just in terms of the need to provide Christian worldview thinking, but may also need to be adjusted to promote a more creative and comprehensive thought process.

My dear wife forwarded to me a link to an article (posted by Josh Harish, by Reb Bradley in the Virginia Home Educator Magazine ) that is getting a lot of well deserved attention, even by the likes of Doug Wilson and Nancy Wilson. In this article we are given a number of thought provoking cautions about homeschooling that ring very true in my experience, both in my own family and in my ministry. May God use this fine article to help us think deeply and biblically about our families!

This just in from the Onion News Network (a favorite news organization of mine)

Here is a wonderful statement by James Jordan (of Biblical Horizons) on Christian education. Not surprisingly, he emphasized that the goal of Christian education is to training children to be worshipers of God. There is a Biblical Horizons blog that Jim and other members of Biblical Horizons post their thoughts for wider circulation.

Jim will be joining us this year at our Reformation Covenant Church Family camp.
