Week 14 (Nov 6): Marriage & the Family

 MARRIAGE

Genesis 2:20-25

20So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. 21And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

23And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” 24Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

-Adam needed a helper – woman created especially suitable for man. Equal but different (out of man; Gen. 1:27).
-Adam waxed poetic – loving & sexual relationship – Oneness (Mal. 2:15); 1 Cor. 7:2
-New families (no patriarchal control of the future)
-One man, one woman (polygamy not God’s plan; homosexual unions are not marriage)
-By covenant (Mal. 2:14)
-For dominion (Gen. 1:28)
-For a godly off-spring (Mal. 2:15)

Joshua Harris.com

My dear wife forwarded to me a link to an article (posted by Josh Harish, by Reb Bradley in the Virginia Home Educator Magazine ) that is getting a lot of well deserved attention, even by the likes of Doug Wilson and Nancy Wilson. In this article we are given a number of thought provoking cautions about homeschooling that ring very true in my experience, both in my own family and in my ministry. May God use this fine article to help us think deeply and biblically about our families!

My 50th Birthday Party

Posted by: Doug    in Family, Family Pictures

My dear wife had it in her mind that she wanted to throw me a grand party to celebrate my 50th birthday.  Since the big day was during family camp – she planned the party for the Saturday following camp – June 26th. We met at one of my old haunts – Old Town Pizza (which still has the same fantastic ambiance).

It was a wonderful time of friendship and fellowship and a great blessing to me! She had invited several people to offer words of encouragement, which was most appreciated. Amy made a time line of my life with pictures and information about me that would be little known to some folks. She created a picture album to commemorate the event!

Thanks to all who made it such a marvelous time!
