As “Anti-Abortion Sunday” draws near (January 22nd) I wanted to pass on a CBS News story on the last records provided by Planned Parenthood: Planned Parenthood’s Annual Report: Got $487.4M in Tax Money, Did 329,445 abortions reports that Planned Parenthood is now an organization that has “net assets as of June 30, 2010 topped $1 billion, specifically $1,009,600,000.00,” and:

When compared with previous annual reports, the latest one shows an almost steady increase in the number of abortions performed at its clinics: In 2006, Planned Parenthood did 289,750 abortions; in 2007, it did 305,310; in 2009, it did 331,796; and, in 2010, it did 329,445–a small decrease from the previous year…

According to PPFA’s annual report for fiscal year 2007-2008,  in 2007 Planned Parenthood’s “adoption referrals to other agencies” totaled 4,912. In Fiscal Year 2010 that number was 841, a decrease of 82.8 percent.

The PPFA Fact Sheet states that adoption is included in 1 percent of services in 2008 (primary care and “other services” are included in that 1 percent), or 2,405 adoption referrals.

The latest annual report claims that abortion services make up 3 percent of “medical services,” but PPFA states it served 3 million people and performed 329,445 abortions – numbers that show 11 percent of customers received an abortion.

Thus, Planned Parenthood has a record of declining adoption services and a general increasing of abortion services.

Make no mistake: Planned Parenthood is an enemy of life, and thereby shows itself to be an enemy of Christ, who sent for His Spirit, the Lord and giver lof life!

Evangelical Christians long for the day when they can, in joy and a clear conscience, cast a vote for a presidential candidate that they fully endorse. With each election they look to see how faithful the professing Christian candidates are. But seldom do they find a man that enables them to check off everything on their list of essential and hoped for reasons for voting. One by one, election after election, the Christian candidate becomes the one that they “have to” vote for to keep the really bad candidate from the other party out of office. The lesser of two evils dilemma.

I recently came across this video that is about how people think about abortion, and how they can change their mind about it when they are helped to think about it in new and reasonable ways. It is a powerful presentation of how to talk to people about this difficult subject in convincing ways.

It is rather long (33 minutes), but well worth the time to go through the whole thing. Especially when you consider it as an example of how to witness to people about the person of Jesus, and how everyone should submit to Him in faith. Watch it carefully as an example of how to do evangelism.

This video provides some examples of how to reasonably speak to people about the truth claims of the Bible – in a way that gets them to agree with your assumptions about the world, ethics and the need for God. Talking about ethics is a most effective method of beginning an evangelistic conversation. It often seems difficult to know how to get people to come to grips with their need for salvation from their sinfulness. But if you can get them to agree on some basic ethical principles, it leads to the subject of the ultimate source of ethical standards – God and His word.

““Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.” (Isaiah 1:18, NKJV)

“Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.” And some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading women, joined Paul and Silas. But the Jews who were not persuaded, becoming envious, took some of the evil men from the marketplace, and gathering a mob, set all the city in an uproar and attacked the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.” (Acts 17:2–5, NKJV)

“Therefore he [Paul] reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshipers, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there.” (Acts 17:17, NKJV)

“And he [Paul] reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks. When Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ. But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook his garments and said to them, “Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”” (Acts 18:4–6, NKJV)

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;” (1 Peter 3:15, NKJV)

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,” (2 Corinthians 10:4–5, NKJV)

In an article from CNSNews.com we get this interesting report of Nancy Pelosi (Speaker of the House of Representatives) on May 6, 2010 addressing the Catholic Community Conference on Capitol Hill:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says she believes she must pursue public policies “in keeping with the values” of Jesus Christ, ”The Word made Flesh.” Pelosi, who is a Catholic and who favors legalized abortion, voted against the ban on partial-birth abortion that was enacted into law in 2003.

Notice here how she expresses herself in the video of her address to a Catholic audience. Make any sense to you?

Lately there has been a great deal of attention paid to the issue of Abortion, Planned Parenthood and Focus On the Family.  My awareness of all that has been going on began with hearing that Focus on the Family had secured an advertisement for the Superbowl.

Not to be out done – Planned Parenthood sought to air it’s own opposing Pro-choice  ad on the CBS coverage of the Superbowl – but was not approved by CBS.  May God grant the prayers of Christ’s Church that this wicked institution would forever be destroyed!

Also, the National Organization for Women expressed their opposition to the Focus on the Family Super Bowl ad declares with a tone of outrage: “Standing alone, it sends the message that all women who give birth are heroes; it sends a message that abortion is always a mistake; and it is insulting to the one in three women in this country who have abortions.”

At the same time that this Super Bowl debate was raging – I receive a link to this video that, although graphic, powerfully calls people to oppose abortion.  Everyone Against Abortion – Raise Your Hand

May God grant courage and moral outrage to publicly and consistently oppose abortion and those who are enemies of Christ and His Kingdom.

Volition – An Excellent Short Film

Posted by: Doug    in Movies, Social Issues, Video

“Volition” is a short film featured by The Doorpost Film Project.  I heard about it on a list serve that I am a member of and really appreciate the quality of the film-making and it’s ability to make you think about issues more deeply.

View the film here

Film Synopsis:

“Volition” (n) – The act of making a choice.  Sometimes the choice of inaction has consequences stronger than we could ever imagine.  Throughout history, men have been faced with difficult choices in a world that makes it easy for them to conform.  This film explores the hope that lies behind every decision made in the face of adversity, the hope that is buried in the heart of those that look themselves and see something bigger worth fighting for.

The main character lives in three historic eras and faces the moral implications of his culture and personal circumstances. He is internally torn by racism and slavery in the 19th century south, Nazi anti-Semitism in Germany during WWII, and devaluation of humanity through abortion in the modern world.

While it is quite appropriate to question the direct moral equivalence of each of these ethical considerations – The message is that although our cultural influences are powerful forces in our decision-making processes, we can and should at times make choices that are based on transcendent values that are not consistent with our common culture, traditions and respected authorities.
